SALT LAKE CITY — The Bingham Miners' success on the football field has caught the attention of ESPN.
The worldwide leader in sports has invited the Miners to participate in the 2013 High School Football Kickoff Marathon.
The Miners will host Bonneville High School out of Idaho Falls on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN U.
"The exposure worldwide and nationally is huge," Bingham head coach Dave Peck said. "Not only for Bingham High School, but for our state."
Bingham begins the 2013 season ranked No. 1 in the KSL Coaches Poll and No. 1 in the Deseret News poll.
They are one of 26 teams participating in the event across the country — a group that includes 13 state champions.
Bingham players like linebacker Vaka Vehikite understand it's a rare opportunity to showcase the program and Utah high school football.
"It's a blessing," Vehikite said. "It's just an honor to play on TV. Not many schools get this chance."
