SALT LAKE CITY -- The Portland Trail Blazers have offered Jazz restricted free agent Paul Millsap a contract. It's believed to be a four-year deal worth between $32-to-$36 million.
That's $8-to-$9 million a year, and that includes a signing bonus, or front-loading the contract. NBA rules stipulate that you can only offer a bonus up 17.5 percent of the total contract. If it is a total package of $36 million, 17.5 percent of that is $6.3 million.
In other words, Millsap cold get paid around $15 million the first year, and the Jazz would have to match that to keep him in Utah. The Jazz have seven days to match the offer.
KSL has also learned that the Jazz did make an offer to Millsap in the $6-to-$8 million range in the last week. But, of course, the Blazers' offer is much more than that the first year.
