INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Latest on an Indianapolis police officer mistaken shooting an armed homeowner trying to protect his wife (all times local):
4:15 p.m.
Indianapolis police say an armed homeowner who was mistakenly shot by an officer while trying to protect his wife during an attempted robbery is expected to survive.
Police say the man was taken to a hospital in serious condition after being shot once in the stomach about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. His name hasn't been released.
Police also haven't released the name of the officer who shot the man, but say he's a nine-year veteran.
He was one of two officers responding to a report of an armed robbery in progress. The homeowner's wife had been confronted by a gunman trying to steal her car, and she ran inside. Her husband went outside moments later after calling 911.
It's unclear if the officer gave any commands to the armed homeowner before shooting him.

Indianapolis police say an officer mistakenly shot and badly wounded an armed homeowner who was trying to protect his wife during an attempted robbery.
Police say the shooting happened about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday after police were called about the robbery in a subdivision on the city's far east side. Assistant Chief Randal Taylor says a gunman was trying to steal a woman's car when she ran inside the house and her husband came outside with a gun about the time officers arrived.
Taylor says an officer shot the homeowner, who was taken to a hospital in serious condition with an abdominal wound.
Taylor says the shooting circumstances remained under investigation. The young man who tried to steal the car fled from the scene and was being sought.

Indianapolis police say an officer mistakenly shot and wounded an armed homeowner who was trying to protect his wife during a robbery.
Marion County police say the shooting happened early Tuesday when police were sent to the home on the report of a possible robbery. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Sgt. Kendale Adams says police shot a man with a gun who turned out to be trying to stop someone from carjacking his wife at their home.
Authorities say the suspect fled.
The Indianapolis Star reports that the victims was shot once in the midsection and taken to the hospital.
