MARKSVILLE, La. (AP) — A Louisiana judge has ruled a state law banning lawyers from posting bond doesn't apply to the case of an attorney father trying to post bail for his son who's charged in the death of a 6-year-old autistic boy.
The ruling Tuesday, which was reported by local media, paves the way for the release of Norris Greenhouse Jr.
Judge William Bennett had earlier ordered Greenhouse and Derrick Stafford held on $1 million bonds in connection with the Nov. 3 shooting that killed Jeremy Mardis and severely wounded his father, Chris Few, in Marksville.
Greenhouse's father tried to post the bond. But since he is a lawyer with the local district attorney's office, prosecutors objected, citing a state law barring lawyers from putting up money for defendants.
Greenhouse is expected to be released later Tuesday.
