HERMON, Maine (AP) — The Maine supreme court is taking justice on the road this week with sessions in three high schools.
The first session will be held Tuesday at Hermon High school with three cases being heard. The following day, the justices will be at Mount Blue High School in Farmington. They'll wrap up Thursday at Scarborough High School.
Since 2005, the state supreme court has visited 29 Maine high schools and heard more than 85 cases. In each school, the gymnasium, cafeteria or auditorium is turned into an actual courtroom so that the students can observe the appellate process.
Chief Justice Leigh Saufley says the program provides "a real-life civics lesson to Maine high school students." She says she also enjoys meeting students and faculty.
