BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana State Police say two teenage girls were killed and a third was seriously injured when a pickup truck hit them while they walked to school.

Trooper Brooks David (DAH-veed) says the driver, 32-year-old Jeremy Abraham of Breaux Bridge, is in critical condition.

He says Abraham's truck hit the girls from behind Thursday on a Breaux Bridge street. The truck then swerved down the road, hitting a utility pole and two culverts.

David says a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old died, and a 13-year-old is hospitalized in Baton Rouge.

He says Breaux Bridge police arrested Abraham. The truck was heavily damaged.

Troopers have not released the teens' names.

A candlelight vigil was scheduled at a city park and trick-or-treating Thursday night was canceled on several streets.
