SALT LAKE CITY -- Members of Utah's gay and transgender community held a rally and equality march Sunday to promote equal treatment for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation.
Participants met at the Utah Pride Center for the rally, then marched through the Gateway district.
Organizers said they hoped their voices would be heard.
Michael Westley, with the Utah Pride Center, said, "Regardless of who hears them, our words echo, and they echo in history, and today is very much a historic day."
The event coincided with the National Equality March, which took place Sunday in Washington, D.C. All the participants in the Utah rally watched the national event live when they finished their march.
