PROMONTORY -- Engineers in Utah think a voyage to Mars isn't beyond reach, with the help of a brand new rocket. On Monday, ATK Space Systems and NASA unveiled the rocket.
The Ares 1 first-stage rocket has been in the works since 2005; it's part of a five-stage rocket.
Scientists and engineers say they designed the new rocket based on their knowledge of the space shuttle.
The rocket is being called the "new step" in space exploration.
