Tapes containing stolen medical records have been found
July 1st, 2008 @ 10:00pm

(KSL News) The stolen medical billing records of an estimated 1.5 million University of Utah Medical Center patients have been found.

Lt. Paul Jaroscak of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department confirmed for Eyewitness News that the records have been recovered, but said no more information will be given until a news conference scheduled for Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Last month, the University announced that backup tapes of records had been stolen, and that they contained private information from 1.5 million patients. More than 950,000 of the records included social security numbers.

The University Medical Center has just spent half a million dollars to send letters to patients involved.

Lt. Jaroscak says no arrests have been made, but an investigation is moving forward, and many details will be revealed at the news conference.
