SALT LAKE CITY — Athletes from around Utah gathered Saturday to showcase their talent at the Fall Summer Olympics.
Over 850 athletes, 250 coaches, and 350 volunteers gathered Oct. 18 and 19 for the Fall Sports Classic, according to Amy Hansen, the CEO of Special Olympics Utah. They competed individually and as teams in bocce, basketball, acquatics, and the Motor Activities Therapy Program (MATP).
The opening ceremonies took place Friday and awards and medals were given Saturday after the events had concluded.
Along with competing, athletes were also given free health screenings as part of the "Healthy Athlete" program. The screenings included hearing tests, eye exams, podiatry check ups, and a general health exam. The Healthy Hearing department did audiology tests for over 200 athletes, according to clinical director, Ray Jolley.
