MURRAY — In the delivery room of the Intermountain Medical Center Monday, Utah welcomed a third "Senator" into the world.

At 4 pounds, 14 ounces, Senator Rockwell Bench carries some serious weight. He was born Monday night — four and a half weeks premature — just in time for Election Day.

"I'm not really sure what influenced it, it was an election year, but I thought it would be a great name to give him a little bit of respect, with some room for scandal," said his mother, Wendi Bench.

His parents, Chris and Wendi Bench, say they thought of the idea while spending an afternoon at a park staring at campaign signs this summer.

Senator Bench is already keeping impressive company, too. Utah Senator Mike Lee decided to stop in and say hello to his new comrade Tuesday afternoon.

The good news is, he'll have an easy time getting elected if he ever runs for my office.

"It's good to know that I'll no longer be the youngest senator. I've got another one who's joined the ranks," Lee said. "The good news is, he'll have an easy time getting elected if he ever runs for my office."

His parents say the Senate is just a starting point for this budding politician. They have their sights a little higher.

"Well, we're thinking it will probably be President Senator," Wendi Bench said.

Despite being premature and some minor complications, the Bench family is hopeful the good Senator will be home soon.
