SALT LAKE CITY -- State Speaker of the House Becky Lockhart says she's disappointed with Utah's Congressional delegation when it comes to immigration reform.
In the Daily Herald opinion column, Lockhart says Utah's delegation is running for cover on the issue and are throwing rocks at those trying to make a difference. She reiterated that on KSL's Doug Wright show.
"The states continue to bear the brunt of this failed policy from the federal level, and in Utah we are tired of it," she said.
She wishes the federal government would either move forward or move aside and let the states handle the issue.
Lockhart says she's proud of the immigration legislation passed in this past legislative session, but she realizes some people are calling for her job after she supported a bill in favor of a guest worker program. Lockhart says she's not concerned. "I've got to do what I believe is right and then let the consequences follow."
