SOUTH SALT LAKE -- Prosecutors have charged a South Salt Lake mother with the murder of her 5-year-old daughter.
Charges were filed Tuesday against Angeles Cadillo-Castro, 31, after the State Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the girl died of blunt force trauma.
Police were called to a South Salt Lake apartment at 726 W. Timbercreek Way (3875 South) on July 27. The girl, whose body was bruised, was found in full arrest and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Cadillo-Castro called the girl's father, Gerardo Jesus Espindola-Olvera, at work earlier that afternoon saying the girl wouldn't wake up. Espindola-Olvera told police when he arrived home, he found the girl looking pale and called 911.
She died a short time later.
According to the Deseret News, the chief medical examiner says it appears the fatal injuries were caused within a few hours of the child's death. Prosecutors believe Cadillo-Castro was the only one caring for the girl at that time.
Cadillo-Castro was charged with first-degree felony murder. Espindola-Olvera has not been charged.
