FARMINGTON -- It was a much more subdued atmosphere outside the Davis County Courthouse Monday afternoon, as the couple accused in the abuse and murder of 4-year-old Ethan Stacy made court appearances.

Nathan Sloop and his wife Stephanie made separate appearances before Judge Michael G. Allphin.

Members of the group, "Bikers Against Child Abuse" made up most of the public contingent in the courtroom.

Nathan Sloop's mother was also there as the court formalized appointing Richard Mauro as his public defender.

Mary Corporon will defend Stephanie Sloop in the case.

The Sloops are both charged with aggravated murder in the death of Stephanie Sloop's son, Ethan. His body was found in May in a grave near Powder Mountain.

Both attorneys are working to obtain co-counsel. The case was continued until July 14.
