4A state track and field: Pine View surges into contention on opening day

PROVO — One of the final races of the first day of the 4A state track and field meet helped propel Pine View atop the team leaderboard.

The Panthers' 4x800-meter relay of Porter Calico, Kyle Rimmasch, Carter Rimmasch and Bridger Jaggi finished the penultimate race of the meet in 7 minutes, 56.96 seconds to help put Pine View in position for its first state title since 2012 with 41 points Friday at BYU's Robison Track and Field Complex.

Mountain View is second with 26 points, followed by Timpanogos (23), Snow Canyon (22) and Crimson Cliffs (21).

Hillcrest racked up points in the pole vault, with Anna Ames, Charly Nelson, Katie Zimmerman, Kallie Doverpike and Lindsay Siavrakas all finishing in the top-seven to help lead the Huskies to 26 points and a one-point lead over Pine View in the 4A girls meet.

Timpanogos (22), Hurricane (21) and Mountain View (20) round out the top five.
