SPANISH FORK — A Spanish Fork home was destroyed after a garage fire spread through the attic of the home late Thursday.

The fire began just before midnight in the garage area of a home near 900 East and 1240 South, according to a statement from the city. Crews believe the fire started in the garage before spreading through the attic of the home.

The blaze was contained within an hour of arrival, although the home is considered a loss.

Two occupants escaped safely from the home, but a dog was killed in the fire, according to the city. No other injuries were reported.

Someone who lives at the home said he called 911 after "noticing the bedroom lights acting strange and discovering smoke in the garage," the statement says.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
