ST. GEORGE — The driver of a semitruck on I-15 had to be revived after a medical incident forced his vehicle to leave the road on Wednesday afternoon.
Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire Chief Jeff Hunt confirmed to St. George News that the semitruck was heading south, went off the highway and rolled to a stop in deep sand and dirt near the Old Dixie Highway 91 exit.
"It's hard to say for sure how it happened," Hunt said. "After a medical incident to the driver, the truck drifted off the freeway onto the shoulder."
The truck sank into the sand and dirt to its axles, leaving the vehicle stuck by the side of the road and remaining there as of 8 p.m. Wednesday.
"The truck took out a sign and the drive train just got tore apart," said Hunt, adding that since the truck stopped on the shoulder off the freeway, traffic in both directions of I-15 went on unimpeded.
The driver was transported to the hospital after Hunt said first responders performed CPR and emergency procedures.
