STOCKTON, Tooele County — Crews arrived to fire engulfing a truck in remote Tooele County early Thursday, finding a deceased person inside, officials said.

Tooele County Sheriff's Sgt. Nicholas Yale said the fire, which covered about an acre before it was extinguished by Vernon firefighters and the state fire marshal, was seen by passersby about 12:15 a.m. at the top of Lookout Pass on Pony Express Trail.

The deceased person's gender was unable to be determined due to severe burning, police said. The person was alone in the car.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Police said it appears the victim was camping.

Correction: A previous version incorrectly said Vernal firefighters responded to the fire.
