NAPLES, Uintah County — Naples Police Chief Andrew Cox died Saturday after an unexpected "fatal medical event," police say.
Cox, 47, died in his home after a friend found him unresponsive, according to a Uintah County Sheriff's Office Facebook post.
"His untimely death will leave a enormous void for the community and all those who served with him along the way," the post said.
First responders across Utah posted tributes to Cox and offered condolences to his family.
"His death is a tremendous loss for local law enforcement agencies and leaves a huge hole in our hearts," said Duchesne County Sheriff Travis Tucker in a statement, adding that Cox "was instrumental in developing K9 programs for many agencies in our area."
"Our heart felt sympathy is with the Cox family and the Naples P.D. Chief Cox was a great man and officer. We were honored to have known him," Jensen Fire Deparment said on Facebook.
