RUSH VALLEY — Two people were killed in a small plane that crashed on Thursday night in Tooele County, authorities confirmed on Monday.

Details surrounding what caused the Piper PA-28-140 to crash and the identities of those killed have not yet been released.

Authorities with National Transportation Safety Board said on Friday just after 5 p.m. that they were investigating the crash.

Investigators traveled to the scene to investigate the crash on Saturday, said NTSB media officer Keith Holloway. The investigation included examining the weather, radar, air traffic control, mechanical inspection and the pilot's medical data.

The crash sparked a fire in Morgan Canyon Fire between Grantsville and Rush Valley, fire officials said. The Morgan Canyon Fire is currently estimated at 157 acres and started Friday before 7 a.m. The fire is currently at 0% containment, according to fire officials.
