EAST CARBON CITY, Carbon County — An overnight fire in an East Carbon residence left an 11-year-old girl dead, officials said Sunday.

The girl has been identified as Holly Fox, according to KSL TV.

Wellington firefighters were called out to assist East Carbon responders about 1:47 a.m., according to a Facebook post from the Wellington Fire Department. Upon arrival at the Carson Street home at 2:11, responding units "found heavy smoke and fire" and engaged the fire from outside.

"During these efforts, firefighters were notified there was possibly a child still inside," Wellington Fire wrote. A rescue operation began, but because of the "extreme heat and smoke" in the home firefighters were notified that "this was likely a recovery operation."

Sure enough, firefighters found one person still in the home after entering through a bedroom window. The victim was loaded onto an ambulance and transported, but her injuries were "unsurvivable."

"Please keep the victim's family and friends in your thoughts and prayers," the department said, "along with the first responders in this unimaginable tragedy."

The East Carbon Fire Department confirmed the child was 11 years old.
