SALT LAKE CITY — A two-alarm fire burning near 200 E. South Temple on Friday night threatened structures, authorities said.
Officials were alerted to the fire near the Big O Tires shop about 9:45 p.m., according to Salt Lake City Fire Capt. Anthony Burton.
Burton initially said the fire began at the tire shop and spread to an adjacent historic structure; however, Big O store manager Kris Wachter clarified Sunday that it was the other way around and that the tire shop suffered minimal damage.
There were "heavy smoke and flames" coming from the building when firefighters arrived, Burton said.
Fortunately, the structure was vacant. "We were able to commit a lot of firefighters and a lot of tools quickly," he said, "and get it pretty good under control."
One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion at the scene, Burton said. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
