LAKE POINT, Tooele County — A woman was transported to a hospital and later died from injuries she suffered in an early morning fire in Tooele County on Monday, authorities said.

The fire started about 4:30 a.m. at 7740 N. state Route 36, according to North Tooele Fire District Chief Randy Willden. An individual driving to Salt Lake City noticed the fire. The person then turned around and called 911 to report the blaze, Willden said.

A deputy who happened to be in the area got to the house within a minute and entered the building with the individual that called 911, according to Willden. They found a woman just inside the front door and got her outside to the front porch, where they called an ambulance.

Willden later confirmed the woman had died from her injuries on Monday afternoon. The woman's name and age was not released.

The individual that helped the deputy had some burns to his hand but was treated and released by medical personnel at the scene.

The woman was the only person in the home, Willden said. The home is about 100 feet away from a business the woman also owns, but the business was not damaged.

The home is old and has some significant structural damage, likely making it a total loss due to the fire, Willden said.

Crews were on the scene until about 1 p.m. Monday, Willden added. The cause of the fire was under investigation, but there was no sign of suspicious activity, he said.

No other information about the fire was available Monday.
