TABIONA, Duchesne County — A man died after his house caught on fire in rural Duchesne County on Thursday morning, officials said.

Rickey Evin Wilberg, 66, died after his home at 3798 N. 38200 West in Tabiona caught fire, Duchesne County sheriff’s officials said in an emailed statement.

Just before 8 a.m. Thursday, a driver who was on nearby state Route 35 spotted flames coming from the home and reported it to emergency dispatchers, officials said.

A Duchesne County sheriff’s deputy, who lives near the home, tried to get into the house, but could not enter due to thick smoke.

Emergency officials recovered Wilberg’s body later Thursday afternoon, officials said. Wilberg's body was transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fire crews from Duchesne and Fruitland responded to the blaze.

A damage estimate was not immediately available Thursday.
