HUNTSVILLE — A man was injured when an explosion heavily damaged his house in a remote part of Huntsville Thursday morning, officials said.
Crews responded to reports of an explosion at 12780 E. Evergreen Park Drive around 6 a.m., according to West Weber Fire District Capt. Rick Cooper.
"Reportedly the homeowner opened the door to let his dog out when the explosion occurred," according to a tweet from the West Weber Fire District.

That homeowner was injured and taken to McKay Dee Hospital. KSL's photographer on the scene, Derek Petersen, tweeted that the man was in critical condition.
Trent Gibson, who lives across the street, said he happened to be heading to work when the explosion happened.
Gibson saw debris fly all around from the explosion and started yelling for his neighbor.
Gibson found his neighbor under a pile of wreckage and pulled him out while yelling to his wife to call 911, he said.
By 3:30 p.m., the man had been released from the hospital, Weber Fire District spokeswoman Holin Wilbanks said. The man's dog also was OK, she said.
Being able to get his neighbor to safety as soon as possible was a matter of good timing for Gibson, he said.
"Between that and me being late for work — just everything was in the right place at the right time for this sad thing to happen," he added.
Rocky Mountain Power crews responded to fix downed power lines at the site of the explosion, Cooper said.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
