SALT LAKE CITY — Utahns have not embraced President Donald Trump in his first four months of office.
A new Dan Jones & Associates poll for UtahPolicy.com shows 54 percent of residents say they disapprove of Trump's performance as president, while 45 percent approve of his job.
Jones conducted the survey of 603 registered voters May 15 and 16 after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey. The survey was conducted during the time news reports revealed that Trump disclosed highly classified information to Russian diplomats during an Oval Office meeting. Trump allegedly asking Comey to back off his investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn's ties to Russia also was in the news.
Trump won Utah during the 2016 election with only 45 percent of the vote, which is the same as the most current poll. A UtahPolicy.com survey in March found just 47 percent of Utahns had a favorable opinion of Trump.
Republicans mostly approve of Trump's job performance, while Democrats and independent voters are not impressed at all, according to the poll.
Among the GOP, 78 percent say Trump is doing a good job, while 22 percent say he is not. A whopping 97 percent of Democrats disapprove of Trump's job performance, while 68 percent of independent voters aren't pleased with the president.
