SALT LAKE CITY — We’re only a month away from the Class 4A and 5A high school basketball state playoffs, and region play is at full speed.
Trevin Knell poured in 34 points, including the go-ahead bucket, as Woods Cross scored the final seven points of a 68-60 win over Highland to stay on top of Region 5.
Also Friday night, East’s football team received its MaxPreps trophy for finishing the season ranked No. 23 in the organization’s final poll.
On the hardwood, Box Elder’s Max Watson scored 26 points to try to spoil the Leopards’ night. But Hayden Banz scored 14 and East held on to a 63-60 victory to move into a tie for second in Region 5.
Earlier in the week, Lone Peak looked to remain undefeated in Region 4 with an 80-44 win over Lehi. Max Brenchley had 14 points and five rebounds for the Knights.
Class 2A featured the Battle of the Summits, when Calvin Hunsaker scored 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead North Summit to a 59-52 win over South Summit in a heated rivalry game.
