OGDEN -- The police force is said to be a brotherhood, and in the case of six Ogden police officers shot Wednesday night, the brotherhood extends across the country.

The Ogden Police Department has been receiving calls from as far away as Florida and New York from other agencies expressing their condolences for the officers and their families. They say that anything like this cuts the entire force deep.

Locally, people have sent flowers to the police station, regardless of whether the sender knows any of the officers. They are more a token of appreciation, letting officers know that they matter and the community is thinking of them.

"Usually I don't look at the notes, but they express their condolences and wishing comfort to the families, family members who fell victim to the crime that took place," said David Taylor, of Jimmy's Flower Shop.

At McKay-Dee Hospital Center, a similar scene plays out. Hospital workers say they have received call after call from people who want to help. Because of the expressed interest, a mobile blood drive for Friday was set up with help from the Red Cross at the hospital.

wo of the officers shot while attempting to serve a warrant Wednesday night in Ogden are now listed in fair condition.

"I don't have the money to donate to the funds but I wanted to do something and this was the perfect opportunity. (It's) a way to show we care," said one donor, Danily Hansen.

Some community members even express a similar feeling to what the police force describes as a brotherhood.

"It's hard. Their family is my family," said another donor, Tresa Hernandez.

For those who can afford to make monetary donations for the officers and their families, accounts* under the Ogden officers' names have been set up at the Bank of Utah.

Ogden Police and the Weber County Attorney's Office have yet to supply any real updates on the investigation, but each agency is working on its own investigation. The county attorney is handling the criminal investigation and Ogden Police are in the process of reviewing what happened and how the search was conducted.
