SALT LAKE CITY — Police are seeking the public's help in identifying two people who they believe were nearby when someone shot a 16-year-old boy on the sidewalk in South Salt Lake last week.

The possible witnesses are the driver of a silver minivan and a person walking a dog who were near the scene at 3100 South and 300 East in South Salt Lake at about 4 p.m. on Feb. 13, South Salt Lake police said in a prepared statement.

Investigators want to interview the driver and pedestrian about what they may have seen. Police believe they may "have crucial information that could help to identify a suspect or a vehicle" connected to the death of Alan Hernandez-Lopez.

No suspects have been named and no arrests made in the case.

The boy was shot on the sidewalk as he walked home from school. Family and friends set up a GoFundMe page* to help cover funeral and medical costs.

Police ask anyone with information on the South Salt Lake case to call police: 801-840-4057.
