SALT LAKE CITY — Most of us wish we could get more sleep.

If you've ever had a conversation where all participants just exchanged descriptions of how tired they all were, we here at KSL.com can relate. After a quick, non-scientific poll of our team, we overwhelmingly agreed that we need more sleep.

The only problem is that life is busy: there's TV to catch up on, kids to take care of, work to get done, sports to play, homes to keep clean. The list goes on and on. But according to the National Sleep Foundation, getting enough shut-eye is something we need to get better at prioritizing.

That's why sleep is the focus of our KSL.com Healthy Living Challenge this month. Sometimes we all need a little extra motivation to accomplish our goals, so we're inviting you to join us in working toward living healthier lives, one night's sleep at a time.

The details of the challenge are listed below. To join in on the fun, email web@ksl.com with the subject line "SLEEP CHALLENGE" and we'll add you to our weekly email list.

Once you are subscribed, you will receive sleep tips, motivational ideas and progress updates delivered to your inbox, as well as a bit of extra fun bonding with some of your favorite KSL.com writers. You'll also have the chance to briefly share how the challenge went for you in our roundup article after the month ends.

And now for the specifics. To participate, set a minimum goal of sleep you will get each night, and try to hit this goal for at least 16 nights between Oct. 5 and Nov. 5. Make this a stretch goal: If you're currently getting six hours of sleep a night, go for seven. If you're at seven nightly hours of sleep, try for eight.

Feel free to adjust this goal around your lifestyle — if you want to set a goal of eight hours per night for all 31 nights, more power to you — but remember, the focus here is healthy living. We're using the honor system, so you can track this however works best for you.

At the end of the month, we'll take a look at how getting enough sleep (or at least trying to get enough sleep) affected the various aspects of our lives. Did our moods improve? Our focus? Our productivity? Did we have more energy, or maybe even less? Check back here in early November to find out.

Happy sleeping, friends!
