Receiving a free lunch for military service

Michelle N.

“The day before my husband left for a month-long military assignment, we were squeezing in a quick lunch date (dressed in uniform). As we ordered at the counter, a young man ran in front of us, with money in his hand saying, 'I got it, I got it!'. He paid for our meal and thanked us for our service. His parents were close by and we got to shake hands with these people who are raising this awesome young man. They were grateful for us, but we were left feeling grateful for them, too.”

Cheering up fellow patients

Mariah H.

“My father, a Provo local, has terminal papillary thyroid cancer that has metastasized to his lungs. At the age of 67, oxygen tank in tow, he is attending UVU to complete his bachelor's degree in photography. While being treated at the Huntsman Center, he decided to give back. Twice, he has gone to Huntsman and set up displays (of) 30 of his photographs in the lobby along with his professional photograph printer. He takes the time to talk with patients, family members and professionals at the center. (He) shows them his photography and invites them to pick their favorite 10-13 prints to take home for free. (One day), he gave away 101 prints along with many healing hugs and words of encouragement.”

Combining efforts for good

Christine C.

“On Thursday around 5:45 p.m., an SUV broke down in the middle of the intersection at 10600 S. State St. It was blocking traffic in multiple directions. A Sandy City police officer stopped and told the driver that he would push her SUV (not a little thing to push) to a nearby parking lot. According to my car's dashboard, it was 88 degrees outside.

“As he started to push, the gentleman in the truck next to me jumped out to help the officer and they pushed the SUV down State Street to the nearest parking lot. I wish I knew their names so I could thank them for being so wonderful. With all of the bad we see in the news, it made my day to see an example of people still caring for each other.”
