OGDEN— On Wednesday, the “Steve Harvey” show featured an Ogden mom who suffered a car accident in June and four teenagers who made her night with random acts of kindness.

Krystal Brown, 31, was in the car with her two sons when another vehicle ran a red light, hitting her vehicle and causing it to spin around three or four times.

The airbags on the right side of the car deployed, and the car stopped about 450 feet away from the accident, facing the opposite direction. Brown said when the smoke from the airbags cleared, the first thing she saw was four teenagers rushing toward her.

Coltin McClain, Myia Deherrera, Kiara Kirton and Jenica Pender, all 17 years old, were out celebrating a friend’s birthday when they saw Brown’s accident take place.

Pender is emergency medical responder certified and immediately rushed over to the car, along with McClain, one of the teens said on an episode of “Steve Harvey” that aired Wednesday.

They helped Brown open the car doors so her children could get out of the vehicle and looked after her older son with special needs while she tended to her 3-year-old son, who was in shock.

The four teens stayed with Brown and her sons several hours after the accident, until the tow trucks had left the scene at approximately 1 a.m., Brown said.

Brown had groceries in her trunk that were ruined after the accident. The Utah teens offered her $40 to help replace the groceries, but Brown refused to accept it.

Later that evening, Brown found a handwritten note from the four at the bottom of a grocery bag, wrapped around $40. The note said: "I knew you won't accept it, but we want you to have it. You're so strong and we love you lots."

Brown had the chance to thank the four teens on Wednesday’s episode of “Steve Harvey.”

“The heart that each of those teens have is admirable,” Brown told KSL.com. “Some adults two and three times their age don’t have that kind of heartfelt compassion that they showed my boys and I that night.”

Brown was not only introduced to McClain, Deherrera, Kirton and Pender, but was given $5,000 on behalf of Instacart, an app that will deliver groceries to a customer’s home within one hour.

The teens will each be presented with $5,000 to help pay for their college educations, according to “Steve Harvey.”

“I hope this story is able to touch others that they, too, can choose a random act of love when a situation presents itself,” Brown said. “You never know how much you can positively impact a stranger’s life and leave a lifelong lasting impression.”
