SALT LAKE CITY — A parolee was arrested after police say he threatened a man and fired at officers.

The man, whose name has not been released, had allegedly come to the area with a gun and threatened another man about 10 p.m. Saturday, prompting a call to police, Salt Lake Police Lt. James Tracy said. The man was on parole and was not permitted to carry a gun, according to police.

Officers responded to the area, 1071 W. Wenco Drive, and were talking to the individual who called police when a vehicle passed by and someone fired about nine shots toward the group, he said. Based on interviews and other information, Tracy said officers believed they knew who the shooter was.

Officers tracked to the suspected shooter to West Valley City, where he was later arrested and turned over to Adult Probation and Parole officers, according to Salt Lake police.

No one was injured in the shooting, Tracy said. Investigators say the incident was gang related.
