LOS ANGELES — After the Runnin' Utes men's basketball team upset Duke 77-75 in overtime last December at Madison Square Garden, noted Blue Devil guest and 'Tonight Show' host Jimmy Fallon made a half-hearted promise to Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak's wife Jan to don a donated Utah hat on his show.

The move was left unfulfilled, even at the behest of thousands of Ute fans on Twitter using the hashtag #WearTheHat. You can see Fallon's half-hearted agreeance to the deal in the video below.

"She came in and yelled at me. She told me to wear the Utah hat, but I was with the president of Duke," Fallon said. "It would've been rude if I had.

"She didn't ask me anything. She yelled at me and said 'You're going to wear this hat when they win.'"

Fallon was an invited guest at the game of Duke vice president and athletic director Kevin White, and other Duke dignitaries who sat next to the popular entertainer courtside during the game. That's where Jan Krystkowiak found the duo and made her approach. The exchange quickly sparked a trending hashtag and remained for much of the host's holiday vacation from the show for the forthcoming weeks.

But the hat never came.

At least, until KSL's Mike Headrick sat down with the late-night host in his studio. The KSL-TV reporter sat down with Fallon for a one-on-one interview in Los Angeles.

The duo posed for photos, including one of Fallon in the Utah hat and Headrick sporting the hat of his alma mater BYU.

"This one's good," said Fallon, refusing to be baited into a rivalry discussion. "This one's red, and I dig it."

The comedian talked about more from the Beehive State: Utah musicians, visiting Utah and the Utah hat.

Fallon also ventured into discussions about his new adventures into fatherhood.

"Both babies had some stomach bug, and my wife got it," the father of two said. "When you see your loved ones projectile vomiting for 48 hours, that's a bonding experience. That's real.

"It's insane; the amount of vomit in my apartment was unbelievable."
