CEDAR CITY — One man is in serious condition and another is in custody after a stabbing occurred during a fight at a Cedar City motel on Thursday night, police say.
Police were called to a fight scene around 8:30 p.m. at Value Inn in Cedar City and discovered a man had been stabbed multiple times, Cedar City police said. The suspect, 34-year-old Scott Baney, had fled on foot.
Police caught up with Baney a short time later in a parking lot next to the motel where he was arrested without incident, police said.
The victim was taken to Cedar City Hospital in serious condition. Two other people present during the fight suffered minor injuries while attempting to stop Baney, police said, but were not treated for injuries.
Police are still investigating the cause but believe alcohol may have contributed to the fight. Baney was booked into the Iron County Jail on felony aggravated assault.
