VERNAL —Police have arrested a third man wanted in connection with a stabbing that occurred inside a mobile home early Friday.
Three men had entered the home, located at 1015 S. Vernal Ave., and a fight ensued with the 51-year-old male homeowner, who was stabbed multiple times during the altercation, according to Uintah County Sheriff's Cpl. Brian Fletcher. He said at least one of the men was armed and the homeowner was able to wrestle control of the gun and fired at least two shots, one of which hit one of the assailants in the leg.
The three men, who are all Vernal residents, ran away and the homeowner made his way to the road to seek help, Fletcher said.
The men were later identified as Lynn Richens, 25, who is being investigated for aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, and possession of an explosive device; Montana Stubbs, 21, who is being investigated for aggravated burglary and aggravated assault; and Kaden Chase Holmes, 23, who is being investigated for aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, and outstanding warrants.
The homeowner was taken to the hospital and remains in critical but stable condition.
Stubbs, who was shot by the homeowner, appeared at the hospital later Friday, was treated and released, and was later arrested. Richins was arrested after meeting with police Friday, and Holmes was arrested Saturday. The three men are being held at the Uintah County Jail.
Multiple agencies are involved in the investigation.
Search warrants obtained revealed pipe bombs and other bomb-making materials in at least one of the suspect's residences, Fletcher said, adding that the materials were removed safely.
