MILLCREEK — A man who police say was driving with a blood-alcohol content more than twice the legal limit Friday morning was arrested after getting into an accident involving a school bus.
Timothy Scott Moon, 48, was arrested for investigation of DUI and being an alcohol restricted driver.
Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell said a school bus was stopped at 3167 S. 700 East with its red lights flashing about 8:20 a.m. when Moon hit another vehicle and pushed it into the bus.
Moon drove away from the scene but was followed by a witness who got the license plate number, Bell said. After that information was put out on the police radio, Salt Lake officers spotted a vehicle that matched the description near 465 S. 700 East, he said.
When questioned by officers, Moon told them the damage to his car was from camping trips, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report. Moon then said he'd had four beers, the report stated. When officers attempted to perform field sobriety tests, Moon told them he "does not like to do that song and dance," according to the jail report.
Bell said investigators were still looking Friday into why Moon was allegedly intoxicated at that time of the morning and what he was doing prior to the crash.
The driver of the vehicle Moon hit suffered minor injuries. Two children were on the school bus, neither of whom was injured, Bell said.
Court records show Moon already took a plea in abeyance earlier this month in Salt Lake City Justice Court to a charge of collision with unattended property, a class B misdemeanor. He was convicted of misdemeanor DUI in 2011.
