SALT LAKE CITY — The Skyline football team opened the high school football season Thursday night.
It just took them a few extra quarters to shake off the offseason.
Riley Sharp accounted for 12 points, all in the fourth quarter, as the Eagles used a late charge to pull away from visiting Hurricane, 17-3.
Sharp finished with 73 yards and a touchdown on six catches for the Eagles (1-0), while also adding a pick-six to help ice the game late.
The Tigers (0-1) got off to the right foot with a 3-0 lead on Jaden Stone's 21-yard field goal midway through the second half in the only scoring for both teams at the break.
Joey Matsen tied the game for Skyline with a 50-yard field goal with 42 seconds left in the third quarter. From there, the final quarter belonged to Sharp.
A muffed punt set up the first touchdown of the game, and the 6-foot-2, 180-pound Sharp went out for a slant route before barreling across the goal-line with a 9-yard touchdown grab from George Weeks with 10:04 remaining in the game.
Sharp added the final score on a pick-six with 6:32 remaining, running the ball in the final 15 yards to cap the scoring and give the Eagles a win in their first game of the season.
Brody Burke added an interception for the Eagles.
