COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Police are asking for the public's help identifying a woman and man who were allegedly involved in credit card fraud.

The credit card thefts occurred July 30 at a Sunflower Farmers Market in Murray and a Trader Joe's in Cottonwood Heights, according to Cottonwood Heights police. A man stole the credit cards from two elderly women when he'd "bump into them to distract them, and then he took their wallet out of their purse," police said.

After taking the wallets, the women's stolen credit cards were used at nearby stores by a woman. At the Target and Home Depot stores not far from Trader Joe's, the female suspect purchased more than $2,000 in American Express gift cards, police said. Investigators also believe the woman attempted to use one of the stolen credit cards at a GameStop, but the card was declined.

She was caught on video surveillance wearing a white shirt and black pants. The man that stole the wallets was wearing a yellow shirt and khaki shorts at the time of the theft.

Police said the incidents were good reminders for women to keep their purses tightly wrapped around their shoulders or close to their bodies while shopping, and never leave their wallets poking out at the top where they can be seen.

Anyone with information can contact the Cottonwood Heights Police Department at 801-944-7047.
