SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police are investigating after a group of climbers discovered a skeletal human foot inside a hiking boot at Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen said Thursday that the group climbing in the canyon near Salt lake City thought the boot was trash and took it with them to throw it away.

Police say they discovered the remains when they got home and called police.

Hansen says search and rescue teams have found some additional bones as they combed the steep, rocky spot near Alta ski resort, but haven't found a skull or anything to identify the person yet.

The boot was a low-cut type typically worn by a man. It was found about 5 miles up the canyon..
