SCRUFFVILLE — What happens when two adult brothers can’t leave the house while a toddler naps? A charming stop motion video about a big, bushy beard.
The Utah-native brothers, Scotty and Richard Cunningham, made the video when Scotty recently traveled from Smithfield to visit his brother in San Diego. The pair had time to kill while Richard’s toddler napped, Scotty said, so they brainstormed a few video ideas they could do at home.
Scotty said his beard “was only going be there for a few more days,” so the pair took advantage of the timing. Thus, a charming and clever stop motion video called “Weird Beard” was born.
The “surprise” red beard (meaning Scotty’s beard is red but not his hair) goes on an adventure with a pick comb, Mr. Potato Head and a finger that has the powers of a razor. The ending is an especially fun must-see.
“It took us about 4 hours of filming and photos, then at night (Richard) probably spent about 6 editing and tweaking,” Scotty said. “(We are) both amateurs — it isn't the best quality — but we had a blast. His wife thinks we are nerds.”
Scotty said the project was so fun that he’s planning on making more videos, collaborating with Richard whenever he can.
And if you’re jealous of Scotty’s surprise red beard, which is a trait that he and all three of his brothers all share, don’t worry, he has advice for you: “I just want to say that if you try real, real hard and believe in yourself, you could have a red beard like mine.”
But if I may paraphrase, then add: Reach for the stars, y’all, for who’s to say that being a nerd is a bad thing?
