SALT LAKE CITY — With the weather warming up, many dogs and humans alike are itching for new outdoor adventures.

Throughout Utah there are parks created specially for dogs, plus other scenic locations that allow the pooches to explore and enjoy more freedom. The hikes and parks in this list came recommended by KSL.com readers.

Feel free to let us know what your favorite canine-friendly spot is in the comment section.

Sandy Dog Park ==============

This playground was designed to let dogs mingle and make new canine friends. The one-acre grass and wood chip area is surrounded by a fence so owners can let their dogs off leash to run around. It includes a doggy water fountain and walking path, with benches for owners to lounge on while their pooches play.

Location: 9980 S. 300 East, Sandy

Dog Lake ========

This trek is 6 miles round trip, so it requires some commitment, but the payout is a variety of beautiful views and access to a lake where dogs can play in the water. Be sure to take the Mill Creek trailhead, which is dog friendly. Pooches in Mill Creek Canyon have to be on leashes on even numbered days, but can roam free on odd-numbered days. Utah.com rates the Dog Lake trail as being a moderate level hike.

Memory Grove ============

A wooded path at Memory Grove park, located minutes away from downtown Salt Lake City, offers a space for dogs to wander through trees and jump into City Creek while owners enjoy an easy, shaded walk. However, it’s important to note that the off-leash area begins at the designated marker along Freedom Trail. Pooches should still be on their leashes near the memorials and landscaped lake.

West Jordan Dog Park ====================

This designated dog park offers three separate enclosed areas for canines of different sizes. There are paths and water fountains in each of the areas, in addition to a pet clean-up station, according to the Salt Lake County website. It is located next to the West Jordan Animal Shelter and Ron Wood Park.

Location: 5982 West New Bingham Highway, West Jordan

Parleys Nature Trail ====================

This easy trail offers plenty of opportunities for dogs to wander off-leash and get wet. The path is about 2 miles round trip, according to local hikers, but features various options for different routes. Visitors can leave their cars at neighboring Tanner Park.

Location: 2750 South Heritage Way, Salt Lake City

Lindsey Gardens ===============

A large off-leash area can be found in the bottom corner of this sprawling, hilly park. It is a grassy, open area with plenty of room for dogs to run and play fetch. However, there are no fences to enclose the area, so owners should make note of where the off-leash area ends to keep their pets and others safe.

Location: 9th Avenue and M Street, Salt Lake City
