OREM — A man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of raping a woman during a date.
Mansoor Alshmmri, 27, met a 20-year-old woman while she was working at a retailer in Sugar House, according to a probable cause statement. They reportedly started exchanging text messages and set up a time to get coffee together in February.
After Alshmmri picked up the woman, he drove her to Starbucks and they discovered the store was closed, according to the probable cause statement. Alshmmri then reportedly purchased vodka from a State Liquor Store and brought the woman back to his apartment.
At the apartment, Alshmmri allegedly kissed the woman “even though she told him not to” and then held her down on the bed and raped her.
“She did not want any of this to happen and never gave him consent,” the probable cause statement reads.
Alshmmri eventually took the woman home after she locked herself in the bathroom and then begged him for a ride, according to the probable cause statement. Once the woman returned home, she contacted police.
Police arrested Alshmmri Thursday at his home in Orem on suspicion of felony rape and obstruction of justice. He was booked into the Utah County Jail.
