BOUNTIFUL, Utah (AP) — A man arrested for investigation of aggravated robbery at a grocery store said it was all a joke.
The Ogden Standard Examiner reports that police arrested 30-year-old Virgil Edgar on Monday afternoon in Northern Utah. He is accused of displaying a three-inch pocket knife and demanding money from someone in a Smith's Food and Drug store in Bountiful.
An affidavit reports that Edgar backed off and said "just kidding" when he saw that the victim also had a knife. The victim asked a store employee to call 911.
Edgar told police that the encounter was a joke and that he often plays around with his knife.
He told police that if someone threatened him with a knife, he would laugh and walk away.
Edgar was booked into Davis County Jail.
