ELBERTA, Utah County — Police identified a man who was killed in a head-on collision that closed state Route 68 for several hours Wednesday morning.
The accident occurred on state Route 68 near Elberta around 5:40 a.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol. A man was driving a Mitsubishi Mirage northbound when he crossed onto the southbound lanes and struck a Dodge Caravan head-on, UHP said.
The driver of the Mitsubishi Mirage was identified as Santos Chavarria, 30, from Goshen. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and was killed on impact, UHP said.
The 22-year-old female driver of the Dodge Caravan was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and received minor injuries.
Both lanes of state Route 68 were closed for 5.5 hours during the investigation. The cause of the accident has not yet been released.
Editor's Note: Police initially gave incorrect information and it was reported that the Dodge Caravan was carrying three occupants. It has been corrected to only one occupant.
