CEDAR CITY — A woman leaving a pharmacy Wednesday was struck on the head from behind by a man who stole her prescription medicine, police said.

The 50-year-old woman had just picked up her prescription at Township Pharmacy, at 108 W. 1325 North in Cedar City, around 9:15 a.m. when Reynaldo Martinez approached her from behind, according to the Cedar City Police Department. She had been on the way to her car.

Police said the Martinez struck her on the head and stole the medication she had just bought. The woman ran back inside the store to seek help while a customer who witnessed the incident started to run after the man, according to investigators.

Martinez was seen entering a white pickup truck, which was later found on I-15 in Cedar City, according to police. They said the driver of the truck, who appeared to have been waiting for Martinez during the robbery, was identified as William Isom.

“Through the investigation, it was discovered that Martinez and Isom were acquaintances with the victim and her family,” a post on the Cedar City police Facebook page reads. “Isom reportedly had knowledge that the victim would be filling her prescription and had even offered to give her a ride to the pharmacy.”

Martinez was arrested on suspicion of robbery, theft, tampering with evidence and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Isom was arrested on suspicion of robbery. They were booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility.
