SALEM, Utah (AP) — Authorities have arrested a Salem woman they say stabbed her husband in the back after a marital fight turned violent.

The Daily Herald reports that 23-year-old Gabrielle Beard was arrested after police found her husband bleeding Thursday outside their home in Salem, a town 13 miles south of Provo.

Police say Beard stabbed her husband in the upper back with a pocket knife. She said she was trying to protect herself and her property, a box of sentimental items from the couple's deceased son.

Her husband said the argument started because of his concern about Beard being out all night. He said she came home, picked up their sons and later returned without them.

Efforts to reach Beard Thursday were unsuccessful. She doesn't appear to have an attorney yet.
