SALT LAKE CITY — Have you had an experience that made you feel better about the world?

Each week, we feature stories from readers who have had those experiences. Hopefully, these stories will help others be aware of ways they can make their community a more peaceful place.

On giving people a heads up:

Kim G.

"I left work late after a long shift as a nurse and found a note on my windshield, saying there was a nail in my tire. Sure enough, there was a nail, but this unknown person had stabilized it and filled my tire with air. I was able to make it to the tire store and get it repaired, just before they closed. I was so grateful that they saved me from so much hassle at the end of a very long day."

On following good examples:

Bradley C.

"A few years ago I was living in another state. I lost my employment through a false accusation. I was also not living my life the way I should have been. There were considerable marriage difficulties in addition. I felt like I had been totally cast off by God. Three days after I lost my job, an acquaintance with minimal affiliation who did not know of my circumstances, came up to me and said 'Something has been telling me that you need this,' and he put $200 into my hand. He went on to do this multiple times.

"Because of this, over the years, I have paid it forward, multiple times, always remembering him."

On doing your job — and remembering the little things:

Kalynne B.

"Upon leaving a store recently, my nearly 80-year-old mother found her car would not start. She called a local mechanic who met her and loaded her car on the tow truck. He then gave her a ride home and unloaded her groceries for her before taking her car to be repaired.

"It's comforting to know there are still kind, generous people willing to go the extra mile."

On giving what's in your pocket:

Alecia T.

"A number of years ago I was in my early 40s with three teenagers when my husband was diagnosed with cancer and given a very poor prognosis. My life was a blur of escorting my husband to doctor appointments and radiation therapy.

"As the Thanksgiving holiday was approaching I found myself at the local grocery store purchasing the basics for a Thanksgiving dinner. Needless to say this was not a happy time in my life, but I felt it was important to keep some normalcy in our lives and to enjoy every minute we had together as a family. While waiting in line to pay for my groceries I was counting out the few store dollars I had earned over the past month to use toward the purchase of my turkey. I was third in line and there were two women in front of me. The woman directly in front of me watched me as I was counting out my dollars. Soon she reached into her purse and pulled out a number of dollars she had earned and handed them to me. Then the women in line in front of her did the same thing. Between the three of us we had almost enough turkey dollars to pay for the turkey.

"Although neither of the women knew of my personal struggles their kindness touched me and added a ray of light to an otherwise dark and sad time in my life."

On feeding a hungry stomach:

Martin S.

"One late Sunday evening I went to a KFC restaurant drive-thru and all I had was $3 in change. When the employee took my order of a burger, he said, 'is that all?' I said I was unemployed and that was all I could afford.

"They gave me the burger and a bunch of food that I think they were not going to sell because it was late. But they were nice people and I really needed a break.
