Body-cam captures police interaction prior to fatal Avenues shooting

A man who was offering to shovel walks for money before hitting a Salt Lake City police officer with the shovel was shot and killed by the officer Thursday in Salt Lake City's Avenues area.

Body-cam video was released Friday and shows 42-year-old James Dudley Barker swinging a snow shovel at the policeman moments before he was shot and killed.

Friends blame police officer for altercation that left Salt Lake man dead

Nearly 200 people gathered outside the Salt Lake City Public Safety Building Saturday afternoon in memory of James Dudley Barker, who was shot and killed by a police officer after he attacked and injured the officer with a shovel.

The group Utah Against Police Brutality called for the protest to answer questions about officer training as it relates to restraint and de-escalation and ask for an external investigation of Thursday's shooting.

Romney tells donors he's considering 2016 run, reports say

The will-he-or-won't-he speculation of a possible third run at the White House by Mitt Romney got more serious Friday as reports emerged of a meeting between Romney and potential campaign donors.

Romney attended a private gathering of donors at the New York offices of Woody Johnson, a leading Romney donor in 2012 and owner of the New York Jets, and told those gathered that he's seriously considering a third run for the White House.

LDS Church announces 11 new missions

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the creation of 11 new missions around the world Friday, two in Utah.

The new missions, effective on or about July 1, will be located in Washington, California, Trinidad, Costa Rica, Perú, Bolivia, Argentina and Portugal. The Utah missions will be in Logan and Orem.

Possible carbon monoxide leak sends 9 to hospital

Nine people from a Provo four-plex were reportedly taken to a local hospital due to elevated levels of carbon monoxide.

About 2:30 p.m., Provo firefighters and the Red Cross were called to The Boulders, 750 S. 650 West, after a tenant reported their CO detector had gone off.

Dance teacher arrested in connection with sex with minor

A woman was arrested Friday for having a sexual relationship with her 17-year-old dance student, police said.

Amber Telford, 33, owns Collette's Dancing School where she is also a dance teacher, according to jail documents. Telford began buying "clothing and other personal items" for one of her 17-year-old male students and developed a sexual relationship with him.
