SALT LAKE CITY — Former Utah House Speaker Becky Lockhart is critically ill with an undisclosed illness, a family spokesman said.

Sen. Curt Bramble, R-Provo, acting as the family spokesman, confirmed that Lockhart was ill, but had no other details that the family wished to disclose late Tuesday night.

"The family has asked that we respect their privacy and refrain from calling, emailing or sending anything to Becky," Bramble said in a statement. "Your prayers and positive thoughts on behalf of Becky would be very much appreciated as she and her family face this personal challenge."

The news about Lockhart comes less than a week after the end of her term in the House.

More information will posted as it becomes available.
